8-Day Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife family tour
Our 8 day Uganda family safari packs the very best of the Pearl of Africa into one easy, well-paced trip.

Our 3 day Queen Elizabeth safari brings you to one of the most varied wildlife parks in Uganda. Imagine a cool afternoon game drive under a bright sun. You move slowly past herds of Uganda kob, giant forest hogs and warthogs, and you may even spot lions or leopards. Then, just when you think you have seen it all, you take a long boat ride on the Kazinga Channel.
Seeing animals on land is one thing. However, watching them in and around the water is breathtaking. From the boat, you can see Nile crocodiles, hippos, elephants and buffalo. You may also spot storks, pelicans, bee-eaters, weaverbirds, several antelope species and possibly a Nile monitor lizard. Meanwhile, the calls of many bird species drift over from the nearby forests.
Queen Elizabeth National Park lies in western Uganda, between Lake Edward and Lake George. Its savannah, swamps, crater lakes and forests support an amazing range of wildlife. As a result, even a short trip here feels like a classic African safari.
We pick you up from your hotel in the morning and set off for the park via Masaka. Then, we have lunch in Mbarara at the well-known Igongo Cultural Centre before driving on to Queen Elizabeth. We arrive in the afternoon and settle you into the lodge. After that, if you are not too tired, we head straight out for a late-afternoon game drive. The light is soft at this time, and animals start to move again after the heat of the day.
Driving time: ± 8 hours
Accommodation: The Bush Lodge
We set out early, while the park is cool and quiet and the animals are most active. In fact, this is when you are most likely to catch predators still on the move. Your guide drives the network of tracks through open savannah and scrubland. Along the way, we stop wherever something is worth seeing. It might be a kob herd grazing close to the road, a pride of lions resting in the shade or a forest hog crossing ahead. Sightings vary by the day. Still, between the kobs, warthogs, buffalo and the chance of lions or leopards, there is rarely a quiet stretch.
After lunch back at the lodge, we head down to the water for a two-hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This narrow channel links Lake Edward and Lake George, and it is where the day earns its reputation. The boat moves slowly along the banks. So, you get close to hippos wallowing in pods, elephants drinking and bathing at the water’s edge, and buffalo herds cooling off in the shallows. Crocodiles lie still on the sandbanks, and hundreds of storks and pelicans crowd the shore. Meanwhile, bee-eaters and weaverbirds busily work the reeds along the bank.
Accommodation: The Bush Lodge
After a delicious breakfast at the lodge, we drive back to Kampala. After passing through Masaka, you can stop at the Equator for lunch, photos, souvenirs and a cup of tea or coffee. Afterwards, we drop you at a guesthouse or hotel of your choice in Kampala or Entebbe. If you are continuing your holiday or flying home, we take you straight to Entebbe airport for your onward flight.

This trip is ideal if you want a classic game drive safari but have only a few days. For example, it suits first-time visitors, couples and families. There is no hard hiking, because you explore by vehicle and by boat. As a result, the trip works well for most ages and fitness levels.
However, the drive to and from the park is long. So, if you prefer a slower pace, we can add an extra night. That way, you get more time for game drives or a relaxed afternoon at the lodge.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is open all year. Generally, the drier months are the best for game viewing, because the grass is shorter and animals gather near water. On the other hand, the wetter months bring green scenery, fewer visitors and excellent birding. In both seasons, the Kazinga Channel cruise is a reliable highlight.
The park is managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, which sets the entry fees. These can change from time to time. Therefore, we will confirm the current rates when you enquire.
Queen Elizabeth sits at the heart of Uganda’s safari circuit. As a result, it is easy to combine with other parks. For instance, you can track chimps first on our 3 day Kibale chimpanzee safari. Alternatively, you can continue south to meet mountain gorillas on the 3 day Bwindi gorilla trekking safari. You can also stop for zebras and impalas on our 2 day Lake Mburo safari, or browse more Uganda wildlife safaris.
