You will make a bathroom break-in Migyera along the Kampala- Gulu highway to also stretch your legs. After the break, you continue to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Rhino trekking takes about 2 hours in the company of well-trained and knowledgeable local guides. After this great experience, you will head to the restaurant for your lunch. After lunch, embark on the journey to Murchison Falls National Park.

Do you ever wonder whether you can encounter the Gorillas within a limited schedule? When probably traveling on a budget yet hoping to spend some time with the mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park? This 3 days Bwindi Gorilla safari begins and ends within Kigali, Rwanda and takes a shorter time than if you had started from Kampala (Uganda). The best option, therefore, is to arrive at Kigali International Airport then drive to Bwindi, the journey that lasts only 4 hours.

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Upon arrival, our driver-guide will meet and pick you from Kigali International Airport, go for a city tour where you will visit some of the Genocide Memorial sites as well as local Craft and fruit markets and have lunch before proceeding to Uganda, while feeding your eyes with the scenic views of the rolling hills of Rwanda, and finally to the home of half of the remaining mountain Gorillas, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Drive through the Katuna and Cyanika border posts, a journey that will roughly take 4-5 hours. While driving to the Park, you will also be rewarded with the jaw-dropping views of the beautiful landscape and rolling hills that characterize the Kigezi highlands, dubbed the “Switzerland of Africa”. Check-in to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Accommodation:

Gorilla Safari lodge – Luxury
Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge – Moderate
Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge – Basic

Day 2: Bwindi Gorilla Trekking

After early morning breakfast, you will head to the Park’s Headquarters for pre-tracking briefing about the dos’ and don’ts of tracking and encountering the critically endangered mountain gorillas by the Park rangers. After that, the rangers will guide you to the jungles to encounter one of the habituated gorilla families.

With a walking stick, a backpack (containing drinking water, non-flash camera, binoculars, snacks/or packed lunch), you will be dropped at the starting point for the adventure then hike through the dense forest searching for these primates as well as enjoying the sweet melodies of the birds in the tree branches.

All this exercise might take roughly 2-3 hours depending on how far the gorillas have gone, furthermore, one hour will be given to you to interact with this human relative with 98%human DNA, studying their behaviors among others. It should be noted that the activity is strenuous and requires participants to be physically fit.

However, the magical moment of meeting face to face with the giant Apes will make you forget whatever challenge you went through, take photographs and videos before returning to the Lodge for lunch and relaxation. The afternoon will be for community/village tours to spend some quality time with the local communities living around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will meet the oldest culture on the planet earth; these are the Batwa pygmies who have lived a life of wandering and gathering in the forests.

While here, you will be entertained with some of the traditional songs and dances and learn about their lifestyles. Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge.

Accommodation:

Gorilla Safari lodge – Luxury
Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge – Moderate
Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge – Basic

Day 3: Return to Kigali

After a heavy breakfast, you will check-out and transfer to Kigali City where you will choose to be driven to a hotel or the Airport for your scheduled flight back home.
